A Strategic National Security Job Search: Networking 101

Registration

The national security job market is highly competitive.  An estimated 10,000 Americans will graduate with a degree in international relations this year, according to Data USA.  Those just beginning a career will wonder if who they know is as important as what they know.  Building a professional network is important but there are right and wrong ways to do it.

Before cold calling strangers for information interviews, join LCWINS for a lesson in effective networking for national security early-career professionals.  A panel of experts will share their favorite do’s and most frustrating don’ts from their experience as mentors and sponsors.

  • Leah Nodvin (Moderator) is the Director of Government & External Affairs at BMW Group.  From OSCE to congressional committees and USAID, she built an extensive professional network and leverages it today to help more women and emerging talent develop their own national security careers.
  • Virginia Blaser is a tech-driven CEO with three decades of experience, including as a senior diplomat serving the U.S. across three continents.  Her public service continues through her mentorship of emerging leaders and The Manager’s Workbook, designed to support their continued growth.
  • Deborah Rosenblum is a senior national security leader with deep expertise in nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons.  She continues to advice companies, nonprofits, and academics on policy issues while supporting the career advancement of young national security professionals.
  • Mariah Sixkiller is a Director at Hakluyt & Co, a London-based strategic consulting firm.  Her career spans the public and private sectors, including roles in the U.S. House, Senate, and OMB and she frequently advises aspiring public servants throughout the federal government and tech industry.
